· Executive Council Meeting: We will have an Executive Council Meeting after today’s worship service. All members of the council are reminded to attend the meeting.

· We are delighted and honor to congratulate Saya Paul Myint Htet Htin Ya for his successful completion of the doctoral degree in theology (D.Th) at the Hong Kong's Lutheran School of Theology. Saya Paul is one of the eleven scholarship recipients of our church for two consecutive years. Saya Paul will return to Myanmar Institute of Theology to continue serving our Lord in the teaching ministry. Here’s what Saya Paul wrote to us:

“I just got the result of my oral defense. I am qualified. I passed it. Praise the Lord! There are only a few English corrections. The committee officially announced that I successfully finished my D.Th and am qualified. Thank you for all your prayer and financial support. Love, Paul”

· Back to School Fair at Oakland Unified School District: The new school year is just around the corner--school starts on August 31st in the OUSD! Because newly arrived families are often disconnected from essential educational services like tutoring, after school programs and rec center resources, and because refugee families often lack essential back-to-school supplies, the Oakland Unified School District's Refugee & Asylee Student Assistance Program is hosting a 2009 Back to School Fair on Saturday, August 29th from 12:00-3:00 pm!
The fair will provide:
1. Information on after school programs, adult education programs, community centers and other importance resources for refugee families
2. Tools and tips to help parents support their children in school
3. Free back-to-school supplies
4. Food and fun!
