2009 New Year's Eve Fellowship & Worship

COME & JOIN the fellowship and worship programs on the 2009 New Year's Eve at 7:00pm at the Oakland Burmese church. We are getting together to have plenty of fun and relaxing activities (sports, games, chit-chat), and welcoming the year 2010 with a worship service at 11pm. Of course, there will not only be fun and worship, but also our favorite porridge (San Pyote) will be served right until going into the worship. SEE YOU!!!

Dec 13, 2009 Announcements

Christmas Caroling: We had a caroling yesterday from 11:30am till 6:30pm. Despite the inclement weather, we visited 22 families in Oakland City area. We will have another caroling outside of Oakland next Saturday, Dec 19, beginning at 1:00pm until 10:00pm. If you would like to receive our caroling team, please communicate our lead planner, Nway Nway.

Christmas Eve Service with OFBC and Drama Presentation: We will have our annual combined Christmas Eve Worship Service with the Oakland First Baptist on Thursday, Dec 24, 2009, at 5:30pm. After the service, OBMBC will have a drama presentation titled "Do You Know What I Know?" in our church gymnasium.

Nov 15, 2009 Announcements

Our annual thanksgiving worship service and followed by a delightful meal with the Oakland First Baptist Church will be held next Sunday, November 22, at 11:00am. Because of the combined service, we will not hold the Burmese service at 1:00pm, and will resume our Burmese service at 1:00pm on the following Sunday, Nov 29, 2009.

Our weekly prayer meeting is being held on every Friday evening at the church from 6:30pm till 9:00pm. We sincerely urge you to attend this prayer meeting, and if you cannot attend and have some prayer request, please contact Pastor Lone Wah.

Parents Meeting
Langan and Lauren, from Oakland Unified School District, will be here to talk to all the parents about education and related issues on Oct 25th at 3:30pm. Be sure to bring your concerns and ideas.

Church Cleaning / Fellowship Day:
We need many volunteers to help clean our church on Saturday, Oct 31, from 10am till 4pm. We will be repairing the north tower roof leakage also. All are welcome to have a fun time and a great fellowship.

UC Berkeley vs Chico State Men’s Basketball game: We are planning to go on a group outing with the youths from SNC and Lakeshore Ave Baptist Church. If youths (or adults) from OBMBC are interested, please contact David for details.

-Prayer Meeting: We will re-start the weekly prayer meeting on this coming Friday, Oct 9, at 7:00pm at the church. Please make every effort to join the prayer service.

- Ministers and Sunday School Teachers’ Appreciation: On Sunday, October 18, the church will hold an appreciation during the worship service to our ministers and Sunday school teachers for their service to the Lord and to our church. If you would like to know more, please see Emerald and Paul as they are coordinating this special event.

- Crime Prevention Training: Loa Family Community Development is sponsoring a crime prevention training on Oct 10, 2009, from 10:00am till 12:00 noon, at the Training Room, 2325, E23rd Street, Oakland. · EC meeting: All EC members are reminded to attend the EC meeting after theSunday worship service.

· Appreciation from Myanmar Institute of Theology: Lily Kadoe, chairperson of the Scholarship Committee of M.I.T., sent us an email thanking our church’s donation of K1,320,000 to support the seminary students attending at the M.I.T. The email stated that the support will begin in next semester, and we will receive the biography of the recipients.

· Australian Burmese Christian Fellowship Mission Team: The Aussie Burmese mission team from Perth, Western Australia, will arrive this Thursday, Sep 24 from Los Angeles. They will lodge at our Church for the entire stay in SF Bay Area until Monday, Sep 28. This team is led by Saya Rupert Thawng and consists of 16 members. The team will hold the music through worship at the San Jose Burmese church at 11:00am, and San Francisco FBBC at 6:00pm on Saturday. On Sunday, Sep 27, the team will fellowship and worship at the Oakland Burmese Mission Baptist Church .

· Meeting with OFBC: A few of our EC members will be meeting with OFBC on September
19th (Sat) at 3:00 pm to continue discussing the transition process.

· Australian Burmese Christian Fellowship Mission Team: We will be hosting the Burmese mission team from Perth, Western Australia, from Sep 24 till Sep 28, 2009. · Shoreline Stroll: The Annual shoreline stroll (5 K Walk) & Picnic sponsored by Seafarer’s Ministry of the Golden Gate & Pacific Coast Baptist Association will be held on Saturday, Sep 26, 2009, at 10:00am. The gathering place is at International Maritime Center, 4001 7th Street, Oakland, CA 94607. We are being invited to join this event like the previous three years. We have plan to join as a church. · Women’s Conference sponsored by Asian Ministry: Rev. Florence Lee, Asian Coordinator, National Ministry of American Baptist Churches USA has sent us an invitation to join this year Women’s Conference in Red Wood Glen Conference Center from Wed, Oct 14 to Fri, Oct 16. The theme of the conference is “Come to the Well – Women Encouraging, Loving, and Lifting Up” is based on John 4: 13-15 and Hebrews 10: 23-25. It cost only $30 per person, and the cost includes meals and lodging. Redwood Glen conference center is an hour drive from SF situated near the coast and in the vicinity of the San Mateo Mountain. All women of our church are strongly encourage to attend.

· Executive Council Meeting: We will have an Executive Council Meeting after today’s worship service. All members of the council are reminded to attend the meeting.

· We are delighted and honor to congratulate Saya Paul Myint Htet Htin Ya for his successful completion of the doctoral degree in theology (D.Th) at the Hong Kong's Lutheran School of Theology. Saya Paul is one of the eleven scholarship recipients of our church for two consecutive years. Saya Paul will return to Myanmar Institute of Theology to continue serving our Lord in the teaching ministry. Here’s what Saya Paul wrote to us:

“I just got the result of my oral defense. I am qualified. I passed it. Praise the Lord! There are only a few English corrections. The committee officially announced that I successfully finished my D.Th and am qualified. Thank you for all your prayer and financial support. Love, Paul”

August 23, 2009 Announcements

** Congratulations to Paul & Cynthia Thwin for their second child who was born yesterday, Aug 22, 2009, at 9:32am. The proud parents named the child "Addison." She was 7 pounds 1 oz and 19" long. Both mom and daughter are doing very well.

· BCANA Day: Today is the Burmese Christian Association of North America day at our church. We, as a member of the association, are observing and celebrating the day during the worship service. We also have flyer available with regards to the information and ministries of BCANA.

· Back to School Fair at Oakland Unified School District: The new school year is just around the corner--school starts on August 31st in the OUSD! Because newly arrived families are often disconnected from essential educational services like tutoring, after school programs and rec center resources, and because refugee families often lack essential back-to-school supplies, the Oakland Unified School District's Refugee & Asylee Student Assistance Program is hosting a 2009 Back to School Fair on Saturday, August 29th from 12:00-3:00 pm!
The fair will provide:
1. Information on after school programs, adult education programs, community centers and other importance resources for refugee families
2. Tools and tips to help parents support their children in school
3. Free back-to-school supplies
4. Food and fun!

· Burmese Christian Family Camp of SF Bay Area: The annual Burmese Christian Family Camp will be held over the labor day weekend Sep 5 to Sep 7, 2009. If you are interested, the registration fees are $125 per adult, $104 for age 4-10 years old and $4 for under age 4. The registration fees included lodging for 2 nights and 6 meals. Also, if you want to go for a day trip, the cost will be $10 for a ground fee and $8.50 per meal. You need to register today to get the discounted fees on a full 3 days camping. The registration form will be available after the worship service. The church will subsidize as follows:

- 3 days camper: $30.00
- 1 day trip: $18.50 and free transportation – new comers (refugees)
- 1 day trip: $10.00 and free transportation – non new comers

August 2, 2009 Announcement

* Northern California Trip: We are planning a day trip to Redding, 3 hours drive north of Oakland, on Aug 15th (Sat) to have a recreation and relaxation time for the seniors (45 yrs young and over) and the young adults. We will be visiting the farm home of Ken and Annette Beazell, a very fine Christian couple that ardently support our church new comers and refugees’ ministry. Please sign up as soon as possible, so that we can get head counts for transportation and food arrangements. Details will follow shortly. We, including YAF and Women Fellowship leaders, will meet in the Board Room after the worship service to plan this event.

* Meeting with OUSD: Newcomers parents are invited to meet with Lauren today at 3:30 pm to talk about Back-to-School preparation. Also ideas about what activities to do with their children during the summer months, and how to help their children learn and practice English will be discussed. Please meet in the Fireside Room.

* Executive Council Meeting: The moderator is calling an EC meeting on August 16, 2009, after the Sunday Worship Service. Please make every effort to attend this meeting as there will be important and crucial issues related to the future of our church will be discussed.

* We have collected $1,419 on the last Sunday special collection during the worship service to honor and celebrate the life and missions of the Rev. Dr. Adoniram Judson in Myanmar. This on-going collection will benefit and support the missions of the Myanmar Baptist Convention.

· Judson Sunday –Today, we are having the special worship service to honor and celebrate the life of Rev. Dr. Judson. The Rev. Mahn San Thein Tun, the Treasurer of the Myanmar Baptist Convention, is here to celebrate the worship with a special message with regards to the ministries of Rev. Dr. Judson and the ministries of Myanmar Baptist Convention.
· Vacation Bible School: Our yearly VBS will be held from Friday, July 31 to Sunday, August 2 at the church. If you would like your kids to attend, please contact Saya Lone Wah or Sayama Jae.

June 28th Sunday Service

This coming Sunday, June 28th worship service will be led by Pastor Emeritus Shwe Hlaing Dwa. Saya Shwe Hlaing Dwa fills in for Pastor Lone Wah and Sayama Aye Aye Thaw as they are going to be in Los Angeles area (Pasadena and Covina) to attend the ABC Asian Caucus and BCANA biennial meeting from June 26 to June 29.

Honor Thy Fathers

Next Sunday, June 21, is the father's day. As such, we will celebrate the day with the special Sunday worship service to honor all the fathers. The service will be led by the fathers, and a few select fathers will also prepare and cook the delicious "Kaw Yay Noodle" to treat not only the fathers but also to all the mothers, daughters, and sons. The tastiness of this "Kaw Yay Noodle" won't disappoint you, yummy. The fathers are honoring themselve by honoring the mothers, daughters and sons with this special treat. So, please make a point of coming to this "Honor Thy Father" Sunday Worship Service this Sunday at 1:00pm. We look forward to seeing you. Happy Father's Day!!!

BBQ & Htoke See Toe on Juy 4 (Saturday)

The church's sport ministry is organizing and sponsoring a 4th July fellowship (Saturday) at the church gym from 11:30am to around 5;00pm. There will be bbq (courtesy of the church's sport ministry) and hosting of the friendly competition of traditional and popular Burmese sport called "Htoke See Toe." Of course, since this is a competition, there will be awards for the players in the winning teams. Please come join the event and have plenty of fun, fellowship, and foods. OBMBC 2009 Point Bonita Camp Info

This weekend, May 24th Sunday, we will not be at Oakland OBMBC location for worship service. We will be having Sunday worship service at YMCA Point Bonita Camp site. You are welcome to join us there at the worship center by 1:00 PM for service.

We are camping out through Saturday to Sunday evening. Our focus is on Church and Christians relationship and our text is on Ephesians 4:5, "One Lord, One Faith, and One Baptism." If you are already registered for this camp, I am sure you will be blessed. Let us come together for a time of refreshing and re-evaluation of ourselves as we serve His body, the church.

From South of the Golden Gate Bridge:

Going North on Highway 101 from San Francisco, cross the Golden Gate Bridge. Go past the Vista Point exit and take the Alexander Avenue exit. As you exit, bear right but proceed slowly. After approximately 500 feet, take the first left to the Marin Headlands onto Bunker Road. Ahead you will come to a one-way tunnel. You may have as much as a five-minute red light here. At the green, continue through the tunnel. Continue straight on Bunker Road for approximately 2 miles. After you see the horse stables, bear left and follow the signs up the hill onto Field Road heading to Point Bonita and the YMCA Point Bonita.

This Sunday Worship Service Special


Rev. Dr. Maung Maung Yin will be delivering the Lord message in our coming Sunday worship service. He is humble, active and effective minister of our Lord Jesus Christ. Recently, he has given us "Leadership Seminar" as well as "Church Membership Seminar" at our church. It was enlightenment time for all of us. We thank God for Rev. Dr. Maung Maung Yin for being with us here, all the way from Burma and it has been blessing to all of us. I hope you can come and join us this Sunday worship service at 1:00 PM in our church. He will be speaking on our church theme for this "May" month; "Sanctify Your Life: Purity."

Epistle of Roman on Study



Bible Study on the Epistle of Romans will begin this Sunday March 8th 2009 at 11 AM in the Board Room. Come and join us to discover God's plan of salvation for the Jews, Gentiles and to the world. We will be studying six weeks period on this book. I believe you will be blessed as you study the Epistle of Romans.

Saturday Fellowship: We will be having once-a-month fellowship gathering at the church this Saturday, February 28, from 4;00pm to 8:00pm. This is a new fellowship program that we are hosting on every last Saturday of the month. The fellowship meet will include both social and spiritual activities like playing volleyball and badminton, having pot-luck dinner, and giving testimony of God's blessings from each individual who wants to share with friends. Theft / Break-in: Thieves broke into Ko Chit Aung’s car on Sat. A neighbor’s car window was damaged, and items were taken from their car also. You are reminded to always lock your car, never leave valuables inside, and if you must, hide them so it is not easy to see.

Meeting with Rev. Florence Li: We are planning to meet with Rev. Florence Li, who is a National Coordinator for Intercultural Ministries/Asian Strategist at American Baptist Churches of USA, Valley Forge. She wishes to meet with several Burmese pastors from the Bay area. We will be hosting the event on Jan 24th (Sat) from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm at church.

Peanut Butter Warning:
Federal health authorities urged consumers to avoid eating cookies, cakes, ice cream and other foods that contain peanut butter until authorities can learn more about a deadly outbreak of salmonella contamination.

Hacketts: According to Dee, the Hacketts family members are on their way to Burma. Some will go to the Delta, and the rest will go to Taunggyi. Please pray for the Taunggyi Orphanage (129 orphans & staff), and safe return of her family. Marty also went.

Asleeps in Jesus: Aunty Daisy Paw (Ko Johnson Paw and Peter Paw's Mother) has gone to be with our Lord yesterday evening. Please pray for the surviving family members for comfort and peace from our Lord. Funeral service and viewing arrangement will be announced later. May the Lord be with the family.

Bible Study: Saya Lone Wah’s new Bible Study Class called “How to Read your Bible” started today, and it will continue every Sunday at 11:00 am for the next 3 weeks. Those who attend regularly and complete the course will receive a certificate.

Mitta Taman Magazine renewal: It’s time to renew the subscription. The yearly fee is $30. Please see Ma Emerald Wong if you wish to renew or sign up for a new subscription.

OBMBC donation envelope: Envelopes are available if you are donating cash. Please put your name on the outside of the envelope so that we can give you accurate credit on the total amount you donated each year.
